Vancouver : Jobs : Job Vacancies : ZAG is currently looking for ZAG is currently looking for a Phytochemical Process Engineer to report to the Director of R&D and Program Management in our Vancouver office. The successful applicant will be instrumental in the optimization of our current portfolio of products and in the delivery of new natural products from inception through to market. Responsibilities • Work with global suppliers to consult on and troubleshoot equipment and manufacturing processes (eg. alcohol based solvent extractions, spray drying, condensing, etc.) associated with the manufacture of liquid extracts, enhanced leaf products and spray dried powders. • Increase current yields in existing products and reduce batch to batch variation in manufacturing processes. • Organize and manage the development of new processes from lab and pilot scale to full scale production. • Evaluate and continually adjust and improve processes, procedures, and equipment to control and reduce capital and operating costs. • Develop economic justifications, establish timelines and budgets, track and report achievement of project performance goals. • Work closely with internal and external Natural Product Chemists to create Standard Operating Procedures required for scale up and commercial production. • Assist in justification, selection and installation of capital equipment. • Participate in S&OP meetings to update on the status of new product developments to allow Sales & Marketing to accurately forecast future volumes. • Build relationships with academia and experts in the field of natural product chemistry to enhance innovation in the supply base to drive down cost of goods (CoGs). • Will require frequent travel to global supplier sites based on project initiatives. • Perform ad hoc duties as required. Requirements • Minimum 10 years of industrial experience • Strong knowledge of Natural Product Chemistry or Organic Chemistry • Chemical and/or Process Engineering M.Sc. degree • Ability to promptly identify problems in processes and/or equipment and offer practical solutions in a timely manner • Basic knowledge of Statistics and Design of Experiments (DoE) • Basic knowledge of Project Management • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills • Strong organizational and communication skills • Ability to work with tight deadlines • Ability to work with little supervision Compensation Competitive compensation package as well as an excellent benefits program which includes: Health, Dental, Vision and Life Insurance.
